Using a 1.6-litre turbocharged hybrid V6 powertrain, the One is perhaps the most authentic translation of Formula One powertrain technology into a roadcar to-date. The all-conquering engine that has delivered Mercedes eight consecutive F1 Constructor’s Championships is meticulously reengineered for road use, boosted with four electric motors for a total of just over 1,000hp. Only 275 will ever be built.

A car as advanced as the AMG One is replete with watershed innovations, but arguably most impressive is its engine. Mercedes has managed to coax 358hp per litre from the combustion engine alone – about 150hp per litre more than the Mercedes-AMG A45. Two electric motors power each of the front wheels – with 326hp between them – and two further motors sit with the turbocharger and the crank, to give the advanced unit responses even sharper than a naturally aspirated V8.
