Porsche 356 European SL
Starting with the timeless 356A, Thornley Kelham’s designers and engineers have developed and upgraded the 356 Coupe and Cabriolet models, inspired by, and true to the DNA of the original Porsche. The European Super Leicht designation harks back to original US importer Max Hoffman, who demanded a toned-down Grand Prix-type car tailored to high-performance enthusiasts. The European SL Coupe offers high-level performance and handling wrapped in a wider hand-built aluminium body. Performance, handling, and lightness…
Thornley Kelham demanded contemporary handling – achieved by chassis stiffening, Independent Rear Suspension, improved suspension geometry, rack and pinion steering, and vastly improved dual circuit braking. Ferry Porsche believed that enough power in a small car leads to a nicer driving experience than a big car that is ‘overpowered’. Thornley Kelham has embraced that idea for the European 356. Using a combination of original parts and newly-designed and engineered components, Thornley Kelham has developed an engine, in 356 engine cases, approaching 200bhp. Combined with a redesigned 5-speed transmission, LSD, and uprated suspension, the European 356 SL will provide today’s driver with a driving experience that is rewarding, reliable, engaging – and fun.
Finally, Thornley Kelham believes that the interior of any car should embody the driver’s needs, but also reflect the 356 heritage and combine it with modern comfort and convenience. Thus, Thornley Kelham has redesigned the 356 European interiors to ensure that they retain some familiar 356 features combined with new seats developed for comfort and support, proper air conditioning, and contemporary communication management systems. And each 356 European SL – whether coupe or cabriolet, will be built to the exact specifications of its new owner. As Zuffenhausen would have done it.
